Philadelphia Plane Crash Claims Multiple Lives and Destroys Homes

A medical transport jet crashed shortly after takeoff in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday evening, triggering a massive explosion that engulfed multiple homes. The Learjet 55, operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, had departed for Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri. The FAA reported two crew members on board, while other sources, including Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, suggested six occupants.

The crash occurred near Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Surveillance footage showed the aircraft descending rapidly before exploding, igniting homes and vehicles. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, rescuing victims and battling the fires. Several individuals sustained injuries, though casualty numbers remain unconfirmed.

Governor Josh Shapiro pledged state support, while the NTSB and FAA launched an investigation. This tragedy follows a recent Washington, D.C., aviation disaster involving an American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter, resulting in significant loss of life.
