Canada’s next Prime Minister Mark Carney …

Mark Carney, former governor of the Canadian central bank and Bank of England, won the race to become Canada’s new Prime Minister.

Mark Carney won the Liberal Party leadership with 85.9% of the vote, defeating Chrystia Freeland. His victory comes amid a trade war with the U.S. after Trump’s tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods. Trump’s aggressive stance, including accusing Canada of failing to curb drug imports, has strained relations. In response, Carney strongly rejected the idea of Canada becoming a U.S. state, emphasizing Canada’s independence and resources. He criticized Trump, saying, “America is not Canada,” and warned that a weakened Canada would jeopardize the nation’s way of life. Carney urged unity and self-reliance for the tough days ahead.
