Royal fans think they’ve spotted NSFW detail in new King Charles portrait

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla’s new coronation portraits were unveiled at the National Gallery this week. Painted by artists Peter Kuhfeld and Paul Benny, the full-length depictions show Charles in the Throne Room at St. James’ Palace and Camilla in Clarence House’s garden room. Charles wears his Robe of State and naval uniform, with the Imperial State Crown beside him. However, online observers were distracted by a white, lace-like detail on his shoulder, humorously suggesting it resembled a bra—sparking playful speculation on social media.

Despite the amusing theories, it’s unlikely the portrait intentionally features lingerie. Kuhfeld, who spent over 18 months on the painting, expressed hope he captured the King’s essence. Known for his long-standing royal commissions, including young Princes William and Harry, Kuhfeld described the challenge of portraying a monarch’s likeness. The portraits celebrate the couple’s 2023 coronation, blending tradition with modern curiosity.

Some royal fans were convinced the monarch had a white lacy brassiere draped over his shoulder (PA)
