Airbnb branded a ‘dis.ster’ after announcing controversial new ‘services’ feature

Airbnb is expanding beyond accommodations by launching on-demand “services” like private chefs, massages, and hair stylists through its app. Available in 260 cities, these luxury offerings start under $50, alongside upgraded “Experiences” featuring celebrity meetups and unique tours. CEO Brian Chesky claims this evolution combines Airbnb’s signature space with hotel-like conveniences, declaring: “Now you can Airbnb more than an Airbnb.”

However, the move has drawn criticism as users complain about prioritizing add-ons over fixing core issues like high cleaning fees and rental scams. Critics compare it to WeWork’s failed diversification, with one tweeting: “Nobody wants yoga lessons on Airbnb.” The rollout comes as Airbnb faces financial pressure from Trump’s trade tariffs, forecasting lower-than-expected Q2 revenue. While Chesky bets on innovation, many see it as a misstep for the travel giant.
