Urgent warning issued to to all 1,800,000,000 iPhone users to disable this feature
iPhone users are being warned about serious security vulnerabilities in Apple’s AirPlay feature, now dubbed “AirBorne” by cybersecurity experts. Researchers at Oligo Security discovered 23 flaws in the wireless streaming system, with 17 posing serious risks including zero-click attacks that don’t require user interaction. These vulnerabilities could allow hackers to take control of devices, steal data, or spread malware across networks – particularly dangerous as AirPlay runs constantly in the background.
While Apple has released patches for its own devices through recent iOS updates, millions of third-party AirPlay-enabled products like smart speakers and car infotainment systems remain unprotected. Security experts recommend disabling AirPlay when not in use, restricting access to “Current User,” installing security software, and keeping devices updated. With over 2.3 billion vulnerable devices worldwide, these flaws present a widespread threat, especially on public networks where malware could spread like a digital worm between connected systems.
