Two Israeli embassy staff members were fatally shot near a Jewish museum in Washington, D.C., on May 21. The victims, a young couple reportedly planning to get engaged, were attacked at close range by 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez, who allegedly shouted “Free Palestine” after the incident. Police confirmed Rodriguez had no prior criminal record and was detained after the shooting.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the attack on Truth Social, calling it an act of anti-Semitism and urging an end to such violence. Israeli officials, including Ambassador Yechiel Leiter and President Isaac Herzog, labeled the shooting as terrorism and emphasized U.S.-Israel solidarity. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem vowed justice, while authorities continue investigating the motive behind the attack.
