Trump offers major new deal to Canada if they become ’51st state’

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly offered Canada a deal: join the U.S. as the 51st state and gain access to the $176 billion “Golden Dome” missile defense program for free, or remain independent and pay $61 billion. Trump claims Canada is “considering” the offer, though Canadian leaders, including former PM Justin Trudeau and current PM Mark Carney, have repeatedly rejected the idea of joining the U.S. The Golden Dome program aims to protect against missile threats, including those from space, amid growing concerns over China and Russia’s space-based weapons.

The proposal has drawn criticism from China and North Korea, who accuse the U.S. of militarizing space and destabilizing global security. North Korea called the plan “very dangerous,” while China warned it undermines strategic balance. Despite the backlash, Trump continues to push the initiative, framing it as a security necessity. Canada, however, remains firm in its independence, with no indication it will accept the offer. The situation highlights ongoing tensions over global defense strategies and U.S. foreign policy under Trump’s influence.
