US court makes bombshell ruling on Donald Trump’s tariffs as he responds to claim he’s ‘chickening out’

A U.S. court has dealt a blow to Donald Trump’s tariff policies, ruling that the president lacks the authority to impose such widespread tariffs. The Court of International Trade in Manhattan stated Trump overstepped his powers by using a 1977 emergency economic law, which doesn’t authorize tariffs as a tool to address economic threats. The administration plans to appeal, with White House deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai asserting that “unelected judges” shouldn’t decide how to handle national emergencies.

Trump’s aggressive tariff approach has sparked global trade tensions, with critics accusing him of often backing down after initial tough measures—dubbed “TACO” (Trump Always Chickens Out). When questioned about this, Trump dismissed the term as “nasty,” calling it negotiation tactics. Democrats, like Senator Ron Wyden, welcomed the court’s decision, criticizing Trump’s interpretation of presidential power as unconstitutional.
