Dutch Queen accused of mocking Donald Trump on live TV finally speaks out on the incident

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands has addressed the viral moment from Donald Trump’s recent visit where she appeared to mock the U.S. president. Video footage showed the queen seemingly imitating Trump’s distinctive way of saying “thank you” during their meeting at Huis ten Bosch Palace.

The moment sparked reactions online, with viewers questioning whether Maxima was mimicking Trump’s mannerisms. One social media user exclaimed: “WAIT A MINUTE WAS QUEEN MAXIMA MIMICKING DONALD TRUMP?” while another found the moment particularly amusing.

However, Maxima has denied any mockery, telling Dutch newspaper AD that her “thank you” was directed at someone who assisted them, not at Trump. She described the meeting with the president as “a pleasant experience.”

Trump visited the Netherlands for the NATO summit, where he made headlines for calling Israel and Iran’s conflict like “two kids in a schoolyard.” Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte jokingly referred to Trump as “daddy” who needed to intervene, though later clarified the remark.

Princess Amalia, Maxima’s 21-year-old daughter, also met Trump and called the experience “really cool.” The royal family posed for photos with the president during the palace visit.

Body language expert Darren Stanton analyzed Trump’s assertive handshake with King Willem-Alexander, comparing the president’s stance to “a cowboy entering a saloon.” He noted Trump appeared to be “marking his territory” with his wide stance and hands-on-hips posture.

While the visit generated several viral moments, Maxima’s clarification puts to rest speculation about any intended disrespect. The meeting ultimately proceeded as a standard diplomatic engagement between the U.S. president and Dutch royals.
