Kate Middleton shares emotional cancer update after missing Royal Ascot

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, visited Colchester Hospital’s wellbeing garden on 2 July, where she opened up about her ongoing cancer recovery. During the visit, she planted ‘Catherine’s Rose’ to support cancer patients and shared heartfelt insights into her journey.

Kate, 43, revealed her cancer diagnosis in March last year after undergoing surgery and later began preventative chemotherapy. She completed her treatment nine months later and has since gradually returned to royal duties, including a solo visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital in January.

Speaking candidly about her recovery, Kate admitted the post-treatment phase has been “really, really difficult.” She explained, “You put on a brave face during treatment, but afterwards, it’s hard. You’re no longer under clinical care but still can’t function as you once did.”

She emphasized the importance of emotional support during this phase, calling it “life-changing” for patients and their families. “You have to find your new normal, and it takes time. It’s a rollercoaster, not smooth like you’d expect,” she added.

Kate’s appearance marked her first public engagement since missing Royal Ascot in June. She was joined by her husband, Prince William, during previous outings, including a visit to families affected by the Southport attacks in October.

Looking ahead, Kate is expected to join other royals in welcoming French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron next week. The couple will stay at Windsor Castle and attend a state banquet during their UK visit.

Kate’s openness about her recovery highlights the challenges faced by cancer survivors, offering hope and solidarity to others on similar journeys. Her visit to Colchester Hospital underscored the importance of wellbeing gardens in supporting healing.
