Horrific details released as man dies at airport after being ‘sucked into plane engine’ before takeoff

A 35-year-old man died in a horrific accident at Milan Bergamo Airport in Italy after being sucked into a plane engine. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. local time on July 8 as the man reportedly entered a restricted area and approached the tarmac.

The victim, who was neither a passenger nor an airport employee, was pulled into the turbofan of a Volotea Airbus A319 preparing for takeoff to Asturias, Spain. Authorities confirmed the plane was completing a pushback maneuver when the tragedy unfolded.

Sacbo, the airport management company, stated the incident happened on the taxiway and is under police investigation. Volotea confirmed no passengers or crew were injured, though all 154 travelers and six staff members witnessed the event.

The airline arranged a replacement flight for the afternoon and offered psychological support to those affected. Meanwhile, airport operations were suspended until midday, with 19 flights grounded and others diverted.

The Lombardy Airports Association announced the temporary halt in traffic, warning of delays and cancellations. Emergency responders, including police and firefighters, worked to recover the victim’s body from the scene.

Reports indicate the plane’s engines can spin at nearly 15,000 RPM, highlighting the extreme danger of the tarmac area. Investigators are now focused on determining how the man breached security protocols.

Italy’s civil aviation authority and local police are leading the probe. The case has raised questions about airport safety measures as officials seek to prevent future tragedies.
