Suspected Kirk Assassin On

Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk, is being held under “special watch” pending a mental health evaluation, authorities stated Sunday. He is currently housed in a specialized unit within the Utah County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies are keeping a close watch on Robinson until his mental state is professionally assessed. Officials indicated that this evaluation process could take several days to complete.

Once the assessment is finished, Robinson will undergo a classification process to determine his permanent housing assignment while in custody. Throughout his detention, he will be continuously monitored by mental health, medical, and custody staff.

The sheriff’s department explained that suspects may be placed on special watch for various reasons. These can include the severity of the crime, behavioral problems, history of violence, or statements suggesting suicidality.

In Robinson’s case, officials were specifically alerted due to concerns about suicidal remarks. This prompted the enhanced monitoring protocol for his safety.

Robinson is accused of fatally shooting 31-year-old Charlie Kirk during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. Kirk, a married father of two, was killed while addressing the audience.

After a 33-hour manhunt, Robinson was taken into custody. His father recognized him in publicly released surveillance images and turned him in to authorities.
