Micheál Neeson was only 13 when he lost his star mother
Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson met in 1993 while co-starring in the Broadway production of *Anna Christie*. Their chemistry was immediate, despite Richardson being married at the time.
After her marriage ended, the couple wed in 1994. They built a life together and welcomed two sons: Micheál, born in 1995, and Daniel, born 18 months later.
Their connection was widely admired, both on and off the stage. Richardson gracefully dismissed Neeson’s “ladies’ man” image, understanding his charm.
Tragedy struck in 2009 when Richardson suffered a head injury in a skiing accident. Initially seeming minor, the injury proved fatal, and she was declared brain dead.
Respecting a prior agreement, Neeson made the difficult decision to remove life support after family had said their goodbyes.
In the years that followed, their son Micheál pursued an acting career. To honor his mother, he changed his surname to Richardson—a gesture that deeply touched her family.
Micheál has appeared in projects like *Vox Lux* and even shared the screen with his father in *Made in Italy*. Their story is one of love, loss, and a family’s enduring bond.
