Donald Trump responds to losing out on Nobel Peace Prize
President Donald Trump has commented on not receiving the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. The award was instead given to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.
Machado was recognized for her work promoting democratic rights and a peaceful transition from dictatorship in Venezuela. Following the announcement, Trump acknowledged her win.
He noted that Machado had dedicated the honor to him, stating she accepted it “in honor of you because you really deserved it.” Trump described this gesture as “a very nice thing to do.”
The White House expressed its disagreement with the Nobel Committee’s decision. Communications Director Steven Cheung accused the committee of prioritizing “politics over peace,” citing Trump’s role in brokering key agreements like the Israel-Hamas ceasefire.
Internationally, Trump’s peace efforts have received some support. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has publicly re-nominated him for the prize, pointing to his conflict resolution in South Asia and the Middle East.
However, some analysts remain cautious. They note that while the administration has successfully negotiated ceasefires, the long-term durability of these agreements is still unproven.
The situation highlights Trump’s continued focus on his diplomatic achievements. His response underscores a strong desire for global recognition of his role in international peacemaking.
