UPS Plane Crashes Near Louisville Airport

UPS cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

The McDonnell Douglas MD-11, operating as UPS Flight 2976, was headed for Honolulu.

Fire and Emergency Response

Police confirmed multiple injuries and urged residents to avoid the area, writing on X:

“This is an active scene with fire and debris. Stay away.”

A shelter-in-place order was issued for everyone within five miles of the airport.

Eyewitness Accounts

Local resident Anna McMullen said,

“All you could see in the sky around the airport was black smoke in billows…

We can still hear the explosions.”

Investigation Underway

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear posted, “Please pray for the pilots, crew and everyone affected.”

The airport remains closed while emergency crews contain the fire.
