New: These Target stores
Target is facing increasing theft and “organized retail crime,” leading to the closure of nine stores across New York City, Seattle, San Francisco/Oakland, and Portland. Despite efforts to increase security measures, including adding more security team members and using theft-deterrent tools, the challenges persisted.
In New York City, the Harlem location at 517 E 117th St. will close. In Seattle, the University Way and Ballard locations will shut down. San Francisco/Oakland will see closures at SF Folsom, Oakland Broadway, and Pittsburg. In Portland, the Galleria, Powell, and Hollywood stores will close.
Despite these closures, over 150 Target stores remain operational in these regions. The company is enhancing security by locking cases for certain merchandise and collaborating with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations division. Target emphasized that while they will continue to invest in their business, solving the issue of retail crime requires collective effort.
