Campbell’s give major update after executive was caught in shocking recording saying their soup was for ‘poor people’

A Campbell’s executive has been fired after a recording surfaced of him making a profane and racist rant, which also mocked the company’s own products. The executive was identified as Martin Bally, a Vice President of Information Technology.

The recording was made public as part of a lawsuit filed by Robert Garza, a former employee. Garza claims he was wrongfully terminated in January after he filed a complaint about Bally’s use of racist language during a meeting in November 2024.

In the recorded meeting, Bally is alleged to have made derogatory comments about Indian workers at the company. He also made shocking claims about Campbell’s food products, incorrectly stating they contained “bioengineered meat.”

Campbell’s has firmly denied the accuracy of Bally’s statements about its food. A company spokesperson called the comments “inaccurate” and “patently absurd,” emphasizing that Bally worked in IT and had no involvement in food production.

Following the public release of the recording, Campbell’s announced Bally’s termination on Tuesday. The company stated his language was “vulgar, offensive and false,” and did not reflect its values.

The company apologized for the hurt caused by the remarks. It reiterated its pride in its food and the high-quality ingredients used.

Meanwhile, Robert Garza is continuing his lawsuit against Campbell’s. He is seeking financial damages for what he alleges was an unfair dismissal and the emotional distress it caused.
