At 67, Ellen DeGeneres reveals triple diagnosis

Ellen DeGeneres faced a major career setback when bullying allegations against her led to the end of her popular talk show. Forced to step away from the spotlight, she transitioned to a quieter life, only to then confront significant health issues.

In her 2024 Netflix special, *For Your Approval*, DeGeneres candidly discussed these challenges. She revealed a triple diagnosis that began with severe physical pain, initially thought to be a torn ligament.

Doctors first suspected arthritis from an MRI before definitively diagnosing her with osteoporosis. This condition causes bones to become brittle and fragile, which DeGeneres humorously compared to feeling like a “human sandcastle.”

During therapy sessions following the workplace allegations, a therapist diagnosed her with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). DeGeneres admitted she initially misunderstood the disorder, associating it only with being very organized.

She also received a diagnosis of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), now commonly referred to as ADHD. This neurodevelopmental condition affects her ability to focus and remain still.

DeGeneres framed her combined diagnoses with characteristic humor. She joked that her OCD, ADHD, and memory lapses ironically cancel each other out, leaving her “well-adjusted.”

Now retired from talk show hosting, DeGeneres lives in England with her wife, Portia de Rossi. She continues to work as a Hollywood producer, having navigated both public controversy and personal health struggles.
