Prince William and Kate Middleton share Christmas card photo but royal fans are annoyed over one detail
Prince William and Kate Middleton have released their 2025 Christmas card, featuring a new family photograph. The image shows the couple with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, in a casual outdoor setting.
The photo, taken by photographer Josh Shinner in Norfolk last April, depicts the family sitting among spring daffodils. Charlotte rests her head on William’s shoulder, while Louis sits between his father’s legs, and Kate has her arm around George.
The card’s simple message reads, “Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas.” It was shared with the public via Kensington Palace’s social media accounts.
However, the choice of a springtime photo has drawn criticism from some royal fans online. Several people expressed that the image does not feel festive or seasonal enough for a Christmas card.
Comments on social media noted the photo is several months old and that the children’s appearances change quickly. One user suggested a more recent picture would have been preferable, despite calling the family “very lovely.”
This follows the release of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s Christmas card earlier in December. They also used an older photo, selecting a portrait from their 20th wedding anniversary taken in April.
The Wales family’s 2024 card broke tradition by being an animated GIF with falling snow. This year’s return to a still photo, albeit from spring, continues the pattern of the royals not always using winter-themed imagery for their holiday greetings.
