Homemade Patty Melt with a Signature Sauce
For a comforting and flavor-filled meal, the patty melt is an ideal choice. This diner classic combines juicy beef, melted cheese, and toasted rye bread, all enhanced by a special sauce.
The recipe is straightforward yet feels indulgent, perfect for any night. Start by shaping one pound of ground beef into three thin patties, sized to match your bread. Season them well with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Cook the patties in a skillet over medium-high heat until done, then set them aside. Next, prepare the signature sauce by combining mayonnaise, chopped bacon, ketchup, sugar, and relish in a bowl.
Clean the skillet and reduce the heat to medium. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread.
Place three bread slices, butter-side down, in the skillet. Layer each with provolone cheese, a beef patty, and a slice of cheddar cheese.
Generously spread the secret sauce on the unbuttered side of the remaining bread slices. Place these slices sauce-side down onto the stacked sandwiches.
Cook until the bread is golden and the cheese softens, then carefully flip to toast the other side. Serve immediately for a deliciously satisfying meal.
