President Donald Trump lashes out after George Clooney and Amal receive French citizenship

Former President Donald Trump launched a sharp critique after learning George and Amal Clooney, along with their twins, were granted French citizenship. In a December 31st post on Truth Social, he sarcastically framed the news as “good news.”

Trump targeted the couple directly, labeling them “two of the worst political prognosticators of all time.” He used the occasion to criticize France’s immigration policies, linking them to a “major crime problem” and comparing them to U.S. policies under President Joe Biden.

The former president revisited George Clooney’s July 2024 New York Times op-ed, which urged Biden to withdraw from the presidential race. Trump accused Clooney of abandoning Biden for political expediency and mocked his subsequent support for Vice President Kamala Harris.

He further dismissed Clooney’s film career, calling his movies “mediocre” and suggesting the actor sought more attention through political commentary than through Hollywood.

Clooney has not directly responded to these latest remarks. However, in a recent Variety interview, he criticized major news networks for settling lawsuits brought by Trump, arguing it set a dangerous precedent.

Clooney also reflected on knowing Trump before his political career, describing him then as a sociable “big goofball.” He noted that Trump’s persona changed significantly upon entering politics.

The Clooney family now resides in France, owning a farm there. George Clooney has stated part of the move was to provide a more grounded upbringing for his children, away from Hollywood’s influence. Their French citizenship was officially confirmed in December 2025.
