‘Unknown Substance’ Sprayed On Congresswoman Ilhan Omar Finally Revealed

A man was arrested for assaulting U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar with a foul-smelling liquid during a Minneapolis town hall. The event, focused on immigration enforcement, was briefly disrupted before Omar returned to continue addressing the audience.

The incident occurred Tuesday night as Omar criticized federal immigration agencies. A witness and video show a man approaching from the front row, spraying her with a syringe-like device while telling her to resign, before being subdued by security.

Minneapolis police arrested the suspect on suspicion of third-degree assault. Forensic teams collected evidence, though Omar was unharmed and her office confirmed she was okay.

Authorities described the liquid as a non-toxic but irritating substance. Initial witness reports noted an ammonia-like smell, while later accounts suggested it may have been apple cider vinegar.

Omar had just delivered sharp remarks calling for the abolition of ICE and the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. The spraying followed these comments moments later.

After a brief pause, Omar declined medical attention and returned to the microphone. She stated she would not be intimidated, declaring, “They picked the wrong person.”

The attack reflects heightened political tensions and a rising trend of threats against officials. Omar, a prominent progressive figure, has often been targeted. The episode underscores broader concerns about political violence amid intense national debates.
