Wilkes County, NC – A local woman has taken the internet by storm after being identified as the infamous “Hawk Tuah Girl” in a viral video.
Jessie Johnson, 25, of North Wilkesboro, appears in the video clip discussing with a reporter how to properly please your partner in a romantic relationship. The video was recorded during a recent girls’ trip she took with her friends.
“Jessie is amazing,” says her best friend, Heather Miller, who also appears briefly in the viral video. “She’s a bit embarrassed about the video becoming so popular. As soon as she said ‘Hawk Tuah’ on camera, she instantly regretted it.”
To complicate matters further, Johnson happens to be the daughter of Pappy Johnson, the prominent pastor of Happy Mountain Church in Wilkes. “This isn’t the kind of attention we wanted for our family,” said Reverend Johnson, asking for privacy during this difficult time. “We hoped she’d spread the Good Word, not become a national laughing stock.”
Despite the backlash, the “Hawk Tuah Girl” continues to gain popularity online, leaving the Johnson family to weather the storm.
Jessie remains unapologetic, however. “I was just being myself,” she said, “I never imagined it’d get this big!”
