Remembering Sienna Stewart: A Brave Graduate’s Journey

Sienna Stewart, an inspiring 18-year-old from Hiram High School, passed away a few weeks after her memorable graduation ceremony on May 23rd. Sienna had been battling severe cardiomyopathy and was recently diagnosed with heart failure. Despite her health challenges, she managed to walk across the stage to receive her diploma, a moment her family will always cherish.

On her graduation day, Sienna unexpectedly collapsed but was quickly assisted by paramedics. When she regained consciousness, she insisted on completing her walk across the stage. “All she could tell me is, ‘I just want to graduate, I want to walk,’” shared her mother, Saevon Chum.

Sienna’s resilience had been evident from a young age. She received a life-saving heart transplant at age 4 and lived a relatively normal life for ten years. However, her health began to deteriorate earlier this year. “When I got there, the ambulance was already there. She had collapsed,” Saevon recounted.
Despite missing her senior prom due to hospitalization, Sienna was determined to graduate. Tragically, she passed away a few weeks after her triumph. “As a mom, you feel so proud because she just fought through something that hurts her. You have to be proud,” Saevon expressed.

Sienna had dreams of attending college and pursuing a career in sonogram technology. Her indomitable spirit and strength will be remembered. May she rest in peace.
