Fans are mourning the sudden death of General Hospital actor Doug Sheehan, who was 75. Known for his role as Joe Kelly, Doug “passed away peacefully” at his home in Big Horn, Wyoming, with his wife, Cate Abert, by his side. The Kane Funeral Home shared the news, but the cause of death has not been disclosed.
Fans expressed their sadness on social media. One wrote, “Loved him as Joe.” Another added, “Sorry to see that General Hospital and Knots Landing alum Doug Sheehan has passed. I met him at a press event many years ago, and I recall him being just as amiable as his on-screen persona suggested he was.”
Doug played Joe Kelly on General Hospital from 1979 to 1982 and Ben Gibson on Knots Landing from 1983 to 1988. His career began with an episode of Charlie’s Angels in 1978. He appeared in over 200 episodes of General Hospital and received a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role in a Daytime Drama Series. He also had roles in Knots Landing, Dresden, and other TV shows, including Cheers, Columbo, MacGyver, and Diagnosis Murder. He was married to Cate Abert for 31 years.
