Shannen Doherty, ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ and ‘Charmed’ Star, Dies at 53
Shannen Doherty, known for her roles in “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Charmed,” passed away at 53 after a prolonged battle with breast cancer. “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” her publicist Leslie Sloane said. “She lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.”
Doherty gained fame in 1990 as Brenda Walsh on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” a show that tackled issues like drug abuse and racism. Her role made her a media sensation, though she left after four seasons amid rumors of on-set conflicts. She then starred as Prue Halliwell in “Charmed,” where she also directed several episodes before leaving at the end of its third season.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Doherty began acting as a child in shows like “Father Murphy” and “Little House on the Prairie.” She also appeared in films such as “Heathers” and “Mallrats.”
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, Doherty initially went into remission, but the cancer returned in 2019. She continued working and hosted the podcast “Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty.” She married photographer Kurt Iswarienko in 2011, and they filed for divorce in 2023.
