Legendary TV personality passed away today
BBC host Beccy Barr, who left her journalism career to become a firefighter, has died after a long battle with cancer. Barr, originally from Lancaster, quit her 20-year journalism career in 2019 to join Lancashire Fire and Rescue, following in the footsteps of her father, Roy.
In February 2022, Barr proudly shared that she had passed all her end-point firefighter assessments. However, in December of the same year, she revealed her diagnosis of incurable cancer, expressing her awe at the love and support she received during this difficult time.
Her family announced her passing on social media, noting that she died peacefully and received compassionate care at St. John’s Hospice. They encouraged donations to the hospice in her memory. Barr’s journalism career included a significant stint at the BBC’s North West Tonight.
