‘The Godfather’ passed away this morning leaving fans in tears.
British blues legend John Mayall has died at 90. Known as the “Godfather of British Blues,” he influenced many musicians, including Eric Clapton and Mick Fleetwood, through his band, the Bluesbreakers. Mayall passed away on Monday at his California home.
Mayall helped revive British blues in the 1960s with his Chicago-influenced style. Born on November 29, 1933, he mastered multiple instruments and led the Bluesbreakers, which attracted talents like Clapton and Jack Bruce. Despite never achieving mainstream fame, he was highly respected and continued performing into his late 80s.
Notable works include “Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton.” He was honored with an OBE in 2005 and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2024. Mayall’s legacy as a pioneering blues musician endures.
