Hurricane Milton

Florida is bracing for Hurricane Milton, a massive Category 5 storm poised to strike the west coast, particularly endangering Tampa with potentially record-breaking storm surges. Forecasters warn of water levels up to 15 feet in Tampa Bay, a surge that could have devastating effects. With sustained winds of 160 mph, Milton is moving northeast, about 160 miles from the Dry Tortugas, and is expected to make landfall imminently.

In response, a significant evacuation order has been issued for residents in zones A and B, with officials anticipating one of the largest movements in recent years. Traffic clogs major highways, and stores are closed as people hurry to secure supplies or evacuate. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor cautioned that remaining behind could be deadly. A Storm Surge Warning covers areas up to Yankeetown, with a Hurricane Warning extending north into Georgia, highlighting the urgency for residents to seek safe shelter.
