Family of American Airlines pilot reveals heartbreaking final conversation before the plane crashed

Tragic Plane Collision Claims 67 Lives, Including Pilot Jonathan Campos

American Airlines pilot Jonathan Campos was among the 67 victims of the tragic January 29 collision near Washington, D.C. His uncle, John Lane, recalled their last conversation—“a cheerful 10-minute call” before Jonathan boarded, excited about an upcoming family cruise.
The crash involved American Airlines flight 5342, which had 64 passengers and four crew members, and a U.S. military helicopter carrying three crew members. Jonathan had long dreamed of becoming a pilot and worked tirelessly to fly larger planes.
Lane expressed both heartbreak and pride, remembering his nephew as a “good kid” who had achieved so much. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the accident.
