Prince William and Kate Middleton just given major new royal roles by King Charles, palace confirms

Kate Middleton and Prince William have been given a new royal duty, with Kate becoming the first Princess of Wales in over a century to receive this honor. The role allows them to award royal warrants—something highly valued by British companies.

Despite recent criticism from PETA for choosing to breed their dog instead of adopting, this announcement brings positive attention to the royal couple. The power to grant royal warrants was given to them by King Charles and will take effect next year.

Royal warrants are considered a prestigious mark of approval from the monarchy, allowing businesses to display the Royal coat of arms on their products, packaging, and advertising. Each warrant is valid for five years and can significantly enhance a brand’s reputation.

In the past, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, and the Queen Mother all issued royal warrants. William and Kate will begin by reviewing renewal requests from current holders before accepting new applicants.

Last year, over 140 companies received royal warrants from King Charles and Queen Camilla. These included Camel Valley vineyard, Corgi Hosiery, and London Scribes. Camilla also awarded a warrant to her long-time hairdresser Jo Hansford, highlighting her female-led business.

Kate has a notable influence on fashion trends, often causing clothing to sell out rapidly after she wears certain pieces. Her endorsement can provide a significant boost to brands.

Designers and jewelers like Catherine Walker, Jenny Packham, Erdem, Kiki McDonough, Robinson Pelham, and Catherine Zoraida are seen as likely candidates for royal warrants from the Princess.
