Man Arrested After Faking Being A Lawyer But Winning All 26 Cases

Kenyan authorities have arrested a fake lawyer who remarkably won all 26 of his court cases while impersonating a real attorney.

The suspect, operating under the name Brian Mwenda, allegedly stole the identity of genuine lawyer Brian Mwenda Ntwiga. Despite having no legal qualifications, he successfully argued cases before both magistrates and the Court of Appeal.

The Law Society of Kenya confirmed the arrest after receiving public complaints, stating the impersonator wasn’t registered as an advocate. The real Mwenda discovered the fraud when he lost access to the legal portal and noticed altered credentials.

Records show the authentic Mwenda was admitted to the Bar in August 2022 but never applied for a practicing certificate as he worked for Kenya’s Attorney General’s office.

In a social media video, the real lawyer expressed gratitude for public support, promising to “clear this misunderstanding” and prove his innocence.

The case has shocked Kenya’s legal community, raising questions about court verification processes that allowed an unqualified person to practice undetected.

Authorities continue investigating how the impersonator accessed the legal system and maintained his flawless courtroom record before being exposed.
