Newlywed couple send $240 bill to guests who did not show up at their wedding
Newlyweds Send $240 Bill to No-Show Wedding Guests
A couple, Doug Simmons and Dedra McGee, recently stirred a debate by sending a $240 bill to guests who RSVP’d but didn’t attend their wedding at Royalton Negril Resort & Spa in Jamaica. The bill, shared on social media, was real. Simmons clarified, “It’s not about the money, but the disrespect.”
The invoice stated, “This invoice is being sent to you because you confirmed seat(s) at the wedding reception during the Final Headcount.” Simmons expressed frustration: “No one told me or texted me, ‘Hey, we can’t make it.’ That’s all I was asking.”
While some supported the move, others found it extreme. Regardless, the couple felt hurt. Simmons noted, “Four times we asked, ‘Are you available to come, can you make it?'” They’d worked hard for their destination wedding, but not everyone showed up, leaving them with extra expenses.
Despite not specifying consequences for non-payment, strained relationships seemed inevitable. Simmons concluded, “I am not some trifling person who is going to bill somebody.”
