Multiple people shot including National Guard members as White House goes into lockdown

A shooting incident occurred near the White House in Washington DC, resulting in two National Guardsmen being shot. The event took place just blocks away from the presidential residence, prompting an immediate security response.

Initial reports on the condition of the Guardsmen were conflicting. West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey first stated they were deceased but later updated that their status was unclear. Authorities confirmed three victims were transported to the hospital.

The suspect involved in the shooting was also injured and taken into custody before being transferred to a hospital. The current conditions of all individuals involved remain unknown as the situation develops.

In response to the incident, the White House was placed on lockdown. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Trump has been briefed and is actively monitoring the tragic situation.

President Trump responded to the event on Truth Social, referring to the shooter as an “animal” who would “pay a very steep price.” He expressed his support for the National Guard and all law enforcement personnel.

The shooting occurred at the entrance to the Farragut West Metro station around 2:20 p.m. ET. Due to the airport’s proximity to the incident, the FAA temporarily suspended flights into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

The National Guard acknowledged the incident, confirming they are working with the Metropolitan Police Department. A significant Guard presence has been in Washington DC since President Trump federalized the local police force in August.
