Trump’s questionable response when asked if he’ll attend funeral of National Guard member who died after shooting near White House

Following the death of National Guard Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, former President Donald Trump was asked if he would attend her funeral. Beckstrom was one of two guards shot in an attack near the White House.

The 20-year-old succumbed to her injuries, while the other guardsman, Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe, remains in critical condition. Trump learned of her death during a Thanksgiving call with troops.

During the call, Trump honored Beckstrom, calling her an “incredible person” and stated her parents were with her. The alleged shooter is identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national.

When questioned about attending Beckstrom’s funeral, Trump responded, “It is certainly something I could conceive of.” He expressed his affection for West Virginia, her home state, which strongly supported him in elections.

The community in Webster Springs, West Virginia, is planning vigils to honor Beckstrom’s memory. The local veterans’ auxiliary announced the gatherings on Facebook, acknowledging the profound loss.

Attendees are encouraged to wear blue ribbons as a symbol of support and honor for service members. The vigils will also offer prayers for the recovery of the injured guardsman.

The specific date for Beckstrom’s funeral has not yet been announced. The community and nation continue to mourn the young service member killed while on duty.
