Dreams of Deceased Loved Ones: Do They Carry a Special Message?
In a blog post, McNamara shared his personal experience of having a visitation dream after his parents’ passing. This dream led him to contemplate the possibility of life after death. As a scientifically-minded individual, McNamara found his conviction in the significance of these dreams particularly striking. If he, a skeptic, felt such a strong connection with his deceased parents through a dream, the impact on others could be even more profound.
McNamara isn’t alone in his intrigue. Studies have explored the impact of visitation dreams on the bereaved. Research published in the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care found that such dreams are common, meaningful, and contribute to healing. These dreams often feature the deceased appearing healthy and peaceful, sometimes conveying messages.
A Canadian study on 76 individuals who had recently experienced loss found that many participants found comfort and a stronger belief in an afterlife through visitation dreams. Psychologist Jennifer E. Shorter identified four key characteristics of these dreams: the deceased appears as they did in life, often healthier; they communicate their state; messages are telepathic; and the dreams are calm and harmonious.
The prevalence of visitation dreams remains unknown, and they can occur shortly after or long after a person’s passing. Have you had a dream about a deceased loved one? Share your experience in the comments. If you believe dreams carry meaning, share this article with your friends on Facebook!
