Tragic Rally Sprint Crash Claims Lives of Teen Driver and Co-driver
In a devastating incident at the Arcadia Road Rallysprint in Paparoa, New Zealand, teenager Brooklyn Horan and 35-year-old Tyson Jemmett lost their lives when their racing car veered off the gravel road into a flooded river. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Horan was identified as the driver during the fatal crash.
MotorSport New Zealand confirmed that while New Zealanders can’t obtain a driver’s license until age 16, younger drivers, like Horan, can participate in sanctioned competitions. The organization pledged a thorough investigation into the accident, which occurred on a closed-off section of Arcadia Road.
Wayne Christie, president of MotorSport New Zealand, expressed condolences, calling the incident a profound tragedy for the motorsports community. Tributes poured in on social media, including heartfelt messages from racing figures like Hyden Paddon and teams such as Winger Motorsport and Hodgson Motorsport.
The rallying community has rallied support for Horan’s pregnant wife, Lucy, with fundraising efforts initiated by his former colleagues.
