The beloved star has died, leaving the world in shock

People who knew and loved Rob Burrow gathered at a funeral reception to say their final goodbyes. The star player for the Leeds Rhinos and England passed away on June 2 at 41 after a long battle with motor neurone disease (MND).

A civil reception was held at Leeds Civic Hall, attended by about 180 people, including Rob’s family, Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Tanya Curry, CEO of the MND Association, and Leeds City Council leader James Lewis.

Rob, who lived in West Yorkshire, died in a hospital near his home just hours before the groundbreaking of a new MND research center named after him. On July 7, hundreds lined the streets as Burrow’s hearse passed by, followed by cars carrying his family. The cortege paused at Featherstone Lions’ ground, where Rob played junior rugby, and a book of condolences was opened.

Rob’s last message urged people not to “waste a moment” of their lives, stating, “In a world full of adversity, we must still dare to dream.” His wife Lindsey said he “made the world a better place.” To honor him, his friend Ian Flatt is climbing seven mountains in a wheelchair, despite also having MND.
