My Husband Turned Our Wedding Night into a Catastrophe
On our wedding night, my husband Scott wanted to get intimate, but I turned him down, saying I was tired. He agreed, kissed me goodnight, and we went to sleep. At midnight, I woke to find Scott kneeling by the bed, holding a baby.
“Scott?” I asked, confused. “What’s going on?”
Scott looked at me, then down at the baby. “Everly, this is Ella,” he whispered. “She’s my orphaned niece. My stepsister, Maya, passed away a few weeks ago. I found out about her just before our wedding.”
I was shocked. “A few weeks ago?” I repeated, trying to process the situation. “How could you keep this from me? How can we start our life together with secrets?”
Scott looked remorseful. “I was scared you’d leave if you knew about her,” he confessed.
Taking a deep breath, I asked, “What’s the plan? Are we going to adopt Ella?”
“I haven’t thought that far, Everly,” he replied. “I just need to take care of her for now.”
We decided to postpone the discussion, but I felt a horrible sense of unease.
The next day, we returned home to Scott’s estate with Ella, settling into life with her as if it had been decided. Feeling powerless, I held Ella one evening and sought answers about Scott’s past and his stepsister, Maya.
