TRAGIC END for this legend
Frank Ifield, the musician who helped launch The Beatles’ career, died at 86, peacefully in his sleep on Saturday. Born in the UK and raised in Australia, Ifield returned to England in 1959 and quickly rose to fame with hits like “I Remember You” and “Lovesick Blues.” Known for his yodeling and country music, he released 44 records in six years and became a best-selling artist in Australia and New Zealand. He also performed at the Royal Variety Show in 1965.
In 1986, pneumonia led to surgery that damaged his vocal cords, pausing his music career. He was later awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his contributions to the arts. Ifield is survived by his wife Myra and their two children.
