ICON DEAD. With heavy hearts, we announce the passing
Roberto Cavalli, the renowned Italian fashion designer, has died at 83. Known for his love of flashy animal prints and luxurious lifestyle, Cavalli was a favorite among the international jet set for decades. ANSA, an Italian news agency, reported that Cavalli passed away at home in Florence after a long illness.
Cavalli’s influence in fashion was immense, with celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, and Beyoncé frequently wearing his designs. He was also known for updating the Playboy Bunnies’ uniform in 2005, choosing his signature leopard print.
Giorgio Armani paid tribute, calling Cavalli a “true artist” who could “turn fantasy into seductive clothes.” He added, “His Tuscan verve will be greatly missed.” Cavalli is survived by his partner Sandy Nilsson and his six children.
