The pregnant sow went into labor….
When Emma the pig arrived at Apricot Lane Farm, she was gravely ill, weak, and heavily pregnant. Veterinarians didn’t think she’d survive, estimating she might give birth to only six piglets. But Emma defied the odds, delivering 17 piglets, 13 of whom survived.
Exhausted and feverish, Emma struggled to care for them. Chester, the farm owner, had to remove the piglets to save her life, but Emma’s health worsened without them. In a last effort, Chester returned her babies, and a miracle happened: Emma’s strength returned. Slowly, she began to eat, stand, and recover.
Chester reflected, “She was saved by her calling—to be a mother. Sometimes, what threatens us most holds the power to heal.”
