Senate Votes 88-2

The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly approved a significant piece of legislation aimed at strengthening the nation’s nuclear energy sector.

The bill passed with a decisive 88-2 vote, with Senators Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) voting against it.

This nuclear-focused legislation was merged with another bill that reauthorizes the U.S. Fire Administration and grant programs for firefighters. According to The Hill, the combined package is now set to be sent to the president for approval.

“We gain more tools to address the climate crisis with the urgency it requires,” Zaidi stated.
