A man traveling from Indiana was shot by U.S. Secret Service agents near the White House after an armed confrontation, officials reported. The incident occurred around midnight, a block away from the White House. No one else was injured.

Authorities had received information about a potentially suicidal individual from Indiana. Officers located the suspect’s vehicle and found a person matching the description. As they approached, the man brandished a firearm, leading to a confrontation where shots were fired by Secret Service personnel. The man was hospitalized, but his condition remains unknown. President Donald Trump was in Florida at the time.

The investigation is being handled by the D.C. Metropolitan Police’s Internal Affairs Division, which oversees officer-involved shootings in Washington, D.C.

This incident comes just days after a reported shooting at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida, which prompted a lockdown. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire but found no shooter or victims. The base, home to thousands of military and civilian personnel, was later cleared.

The heightened response was likely due to a 2019 shooting at the same base, where a Saudi Air Force officer killed three and injured eight.
