Israel Issues Update After Greta Thunberg Claims Of Being ‘Kidnapped’
Climate activist Greta Thunberg has accused Israel of “kidnapping” after its military intercepted an aid boat she was aboard en route to Gaza. The vessel, organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, carried food supplies like flour and baby formula when it was stopped by Israeli forces. Thunberg, in a pre-recorded message, claimed they were detained in international waters and called on Sweden to intervene.
Israel dismissed the allegations, branding the mission a “publicity stunt” and dubbing the boat the “Selfie Yacht.” Officials said the interception aimed to block aid from reaching Hamas. The activists were taken to Ashdod, shown footage of Hamas’ October 7 attacks, and processed for deportation. Some have since left Israel, while others refusing deportation may face legal action. Israeli authorities criticized the flotilla as performative, noting its minimal aid load compared to standard truck deliveries.
