Donald Trump slammed after ‘disgusting’ and ‘unforgivable’ Alcatraz ‘joke’

Donald Trump has sparked outrage after reinforcing a controversial comment he made earlier this week about a new migrant detention center in Florida, which he dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz.” He referenced the facility again in a follow-up tweet, causing further backlash.

The facility, announced on July 1 as part of Trump’s hardline immigration policy, is planned to be built on an old airstrip in a Miami swamp. Its nickname, “Alligator Alcatraz,” comes from its remote and dangerous location.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier added to the controversy by joking that fences wouldn’t be needed since escapees would face alligators and pythons. Trump later commented that alligators would handle escapes and even mimicked how to run from one.

Many critics compared Trump’s comments to a dystopian horror film. Online users were outraged, calling the idea inhumane and likening it to historical atrocities. One called the MAGA movement “evil,” while another likened it to Nazi-era thinking.

Despite the outrage, Trump stood by his comments. The official White House Twitter account posted an image promoting the center, featuring Trump standing next to alligators in ICE hats with the caption: “ALLIGATOR ALCATRAZ: MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN!”

This post drew further criticism online, with users questioning its seriousness. One user commented on the disturbing imagery and connection to ICE, while others expressed disbelief that it came from an official account.

Many users thought the tweet was fake or from a parody account, demanding accountability for whoever approved such a post.
