Prince William and Kate Middleton subtly unveil new royal symbol three years after title change
The Prince and Princess of Wales have quietly debuted their new joint coat of arms. It was first seen publicly during this week’s Royal Variety Performance.
William and Kate became the Prince and Princess of Wales in 2022. The updated Conjugal Coat of Arms reflects their new roles and was featured in the event’s brochure.
Eagle-eyed royal fans quickly noticed the revised emblem on social media. One observer noted it was updated with new elements related to William’s position.
The new design combines both of their personal shields. These are flanked by the royal supporters: the Lion and the Unicorn.
It also includes the Prince of Wales’ feathers, a symbol dating to the 14th century. The motto “Ich dien,” meaning “I serve,” and a coronet are also featured.
The couple’s attendance at the event was their first since Kate’s cancer recovery. She mentioned her children were “very sad” not to be able to join them.
Online reactions to the new heraldry have been positive. Fans described it as “majestic” and expressed excitement at its first public use.
