Donald Trump defends using the R-word slur after being called out by his nephew

Former President Donald Trump faces significant criticism for using an offensive slur against people with disabilities in a recent social media post. He aimed the derogatory term at Minnesota Governor Tim Walz while discussing refugee policy.

The remark sparked immediate backlash online, including from Trump’s own nephew, Fred Trump III. As a parent to a disabled child, Fred Trump stated the word is “never acceptable and is very hurtful.”

Other social media users condemned the normalization of such rhetoric in politics. They emphasized the inappropriateness of a U.S. president using a demeaning disability slur in a public holiday message.

When questioned by a reporter, Trump defended his language. He stated he believes “there’s something wrong” with Governor Walz, doubling down on his initial attack.

Trump further criticized Walz’s governance, blaming him for refugee resettlement and U.S. aid to Somalia. He dismissed Somalia as a non-functional country during his remarks.

The exchange escalated when Walz challenged Trump to release his recent medical MRI results. Trump responded by again labeling Walz “incompetent” and agreed to release the scan.

The incident has ignited a conversation about discriminatory language in public discourse. Critics argue such language from a prominent figure is deeply harmful to the disabled community.
