Erika Kirk explains why husband Charlie being fatally shot is not a ‘gun problem’

The widow of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot at a rally in September, has stated that America does not have a “gun problem.” Speaking at a conference, Erika Kirk instead attributed the violence to deeper human issues.

Erika argued the tragedy stems from a cultural acceptance of violence against differing viewpoints. She described it as a “soul problem” and a mental health issue, rather than one linked to firearms.

The suspected shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, allegedly told his roommate he was motivated by a desire to end Kirk’s “hatterness.” Reports suggest Robinson had recently become more supportive of LGBTQ+ rights.

Despite her personal loss, Erika Kirk affirmed her continued support for the Second Amendment. She stated she would not wish her experience on anyone but maintains this constitutional stance.

Erika had previously drawn attention for publicly forgiving the alleged shooter just days after the killing. She described forgiveness as a freeing act that releases one from being bound to evil.

She acknowledged that not everyone would understand her perspective on forgiveness. Erika emphasized that forgiving does not mean condoning the wrong action.

Her comments highlight the intense political and personal divisions surrounding gun violence in the United States, even for those directly affected by it.
