MLB manager mandates ALL players to stand for National Anthem!
In an unexpected move, the San Francisco Giants’ new manager, Bob Melvin, has mandated that all players must stand during the national anthem before games. This change, implemented since Melvin took over in October 2023, contrasts sharply with the previous manager, Gabe Kapler, who knelt during the anthem, citing personal concerns about the direction of the country.
Melvin explained that the new policy is about signaling readiness and projecting a united front as a team. He emphasized the importance of players being prepared to play and wanting the opposing team to take notice. This stance represents a departure from Kapler’s approach, who chose not to come out for the anthem after a mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and had previously kneeled following the death of George Floyd.
Melvin clarified that his decision is not about the past but about embracing a sense of unity and readiness. He believes that standing for the national anthem fosters team spirit and contributes to a winning mindset, a sentiment he has upheld throughout his coaching career.
